Sooo

Safe to say that this day is in my Top 10 of "How did my life turn out like this" Not a good day. At all. But don't ask :) Especially if you don't know me (person on facebook, you should know who you are). Just so everyone knows, Parks and Recreation is HYSTERICAL and really helping me to be in a better mood. It makes me laugh genuinely, which is good for the soul :) The Bud Light is making me happy too. Yea, it's one of THOSE days. I even called and told my friend NOT to come over tonight.
OK, DONE WHINING.
So, I'll be home (Beebe) REAL soon and uh...I need a job. Ideally, for me, I'd like to go back to a bank somewhere. I like that work. HOWEVER, if anyone knows of any temporary work until I can find a "real" job, puhleez let me know. ALSO, I plan to get back to the Premier Designs which I miss very much! A new catalog will be out in January so let me know if you are interested in hosting a show! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, send me a message on Facebook!
For those of you who haven't already seen my pictures on fbook, I SURVIVED MY FIRST BLIZZARD!!! I've never seen anything like what I saw the day after Christmas!! I am not a snow person anyway, but DANG!!! There are now piles on the side of the road that are taller than me. For real. I mean benches and trash can and trash bags and CARS completely covered in snow. And the wind was blowing so hard that the snow was going from the ground up...instead of the other way around. I also enjoyed watching cars spend 2 hours going back and forth within the same 2 feet. I don't think they were too happy when they looked up and saw me staring out the window...on the phone....laughing. Oops.
My Christmas was fantastic!! Those of you who know me know that I don't care so much for the holiday season. I'm better than I used to be, not quite the grinch. Anyhoo, so I had Christmas on Skype with the fam around 10 til 12. Slept til 3. Then my wonderful friend Raj went with me to the movies so I wouldn't have to be alone on Christmas :) We saw The Fighter which was wonderful. I recommend it to all! I'm just sitting around waiting for the day Mark Wahlberg realizes that I need to be the momma of his next child :) Then off to Applebees in Times Square. I was so stoked to be spending Christmas Day in Times Square. I'm such a geek! Then went to watch Black Swan, which was almost impossible to get a ticket for b/c they were always sold out!! That movie was creepy and weird, yet very good!!
Now for New Year's Eve. Pretty sure I'm not going to be watching the ball drop. When you ask a local (my friends) about going to that, they give you the "go to hell" look. SOOOO, looks like that probably won't happen. Can't spend a lot of money, so going to a club is looking bleak. The tickets cost mucho dinero. So yea, something low-key. I know, totally not exciting and I'm in friggin NYC!! Oh oh! I'm also the ONLY cashier supervisor working on New Year's day...so i don't have the lovely option of calling in to work. Not that I would EVER do that anyway ;)
It's getting sorta late so I'm gonna finish watching Parks and Recreation (I'm out of Weeds) and then go to sleep. Hopefully.
Night you lovely people

Dec 2, 2010

Soooo, I'm walking to work this morning, waaaay too early and I hear the sound of a car having a wreck. It def sounded like a car hitting something (trust me, I know that sound) but not another car. I'm still walking to the intersection as all these thoughts are running through my head. I see someone step out of a car, walk around, and not cuss. OH CRAP!!! He must've hit a person. Then I reach the corner. YEP! Hit a poor pedestrian. The guy was laying face down on the ground, with a back pack on. It was COLD too :( No one really reacted. There was one lady knelt on the ground next to him, but the rest of us just kind of stared. Luckily a cop came by and they flagged him down. I had to get to work so I missed the rest. The guy lived I'm pretty sure. He was doing some jerking thing when I looked. Like he was coughing or puking. Hopefully not having a seizure!
Seems like there are a few other things I was gonna tell you guys. One thing I just wrote about, and then erased. After yesterday's blog, I'll just sound bitter. And I'm really not. I should be the happiest girl in the world! And really, I am happy. Oh, i take that back. Just finished my last episode of Weeds. What the heck am I gonna do until Season 6 gets on Netflix?!?!
I super miss Tucker. I saw him on Skype last night. First time any of us had skyped in a while. I just wanted to reach through the screen and grab him!!
Oh, I remember something. I was waiting patiently today outside the subway doors for the passengers to get off when this guy just jumps right in the middle of the door and IN FRONT OF ME! What was he thinking? lol So i just stared at him. He must have felt the hole burning in his head so he turned to look at me (my look didn't change) and he stuck out his hands in a "go ahead" gesture. SCORE!
Ok, I don't have anything else worth talking about. Or at least I'll think of it when I get off of here. I'm going to watch "Up" and enjoy my night! Take care!

Sheray

Tis the Season

It's the first day of December. It's rainy, windy and gloomy out. Fitting. Difference is that the high is 57 and it may storm tonight...in New York City. I even woke up at 8 assuming it was noon and have yet to go back to sleep. Has hell frozen over? Last night they lit the tree at Rockefeller. I would have liked to go see it, but after that ordeal in Oregon, well I'd rather not take my chances.
Does anyone watch Weeds? I'm addicted. Better to be addicted to the show than what the show is based on! Nancy Botwin is a horrible person who does not have any responsibility for her actions!!! Ok, I'm better now.
So, some of you may not want to read this next part as you will find it offensive. I started looking at a certain wedding album online earlier. Picture after picture was couple after couple...from Beebe. Or possibly the very close surrounding area. It just makes me wonder though, really what are the chances of finding your "soul mate" in a population of 5000 people? I'm not saying it can't happen, and i have some dear, dear friends who found each other in Beebe and I truly believe that they are meant to be together forever. HOWEVER, I think many other people just get to this certain age and think that for whatever reason (pressure) they MUST find someone. Heaven forbid we turn 30 and not be married. I really am not trying to offend anyone, I just get so frustrated sometimes. It just made me thankful that I am where I am at the moment and to not rush the next 2 mos that I have left here in this city. Going back to Beebe is starting to make me scared b/c I don't want to fall into that trap of settling with whoever happens to be single when I get there. And I know it will happen. History repeats itself!! :) Or maybe there is a certain someone I'd like to be with BUT it might kill a few family members on both sides of our families if that were to ever happen. Some of us (me) would like to just be single and enjoy it and not feel that pressure of needing to hurry and settle down with a "suitable" career and getting married and start breeding. Again, more power to you if you're on this track right now. I, however, am not and from the looks of it, won't be for a long, long time. I'm gonna quit rambling now. Today is my day off and I usually spend these days being homesick and contemplating jumping on the next plane home. This morning has given me a new (old) light and reminded me of all I wanted to get away from. I do look forward to being happy and in love SOME DAY.
So today, I'm going to get out in this blahness and enjoy all that this city has to offer!!! It's what i came for! At least it's not cold today :) Pay rent for my apartment, that helps to pay the landlords rent in his fancy shmancy office, prob go to Rockefeller, and last but not least....Walgreens :) Good day. Then I'll come back and finish Weeds more than likely. Big day. Study for a job that is at a basic stand still for employment? Doubtful. I'm doing better tho. At this point I just want to be done with it. Everyone have a lovely day. I mean that. Regardless of who you married :) JOKING!!!!!

Sheray

Almost Thanksgiving!

Hey guys! Well, I can think of two things to tell you about. Number one. Most of your probably read my status the other day about an incident at work. Someone, an employee, broke into my locker three times in two days last week. They didn't take anything until the 3rd time. I had no cash, and as far as I knew, they had never taken anyone's cards so I wasn't too worried. Especially since they didn't take anything after 2 times, right? Anyway, they got in there the third time and did in fact take something. There's not much else I'm going to say at this point other than, they should probably be getting really worried.
Next, I just got back a few hours ago from Miami! It was a very short trip but SO nice and relaxing. I've been dying to go to the beach for a while so I got my wish. South Beach is gorgeous! The water is so blue and clear :) I even got a tan!!! Sure I was pretty cold while I was laying out but I still got some sun. It was about 30 degrees warmer there than it is in New York. I sure hate cold weather. I dunno how I'm gonna make it here through this winter.
The lease in my apartment is up at the end of January and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do when that happens. Most of you will prob be a little disappointed to know that I will prob go back to Beebe. That should make you happy though!!...Right?! Idk, it's pretty complicated and I do love it here but no matter how much you love a PLACE, nothing can replace your friends and family. Especially considering I've lived within a 40 mile radius my entire life...that's where my life is and all the things/people I love. Sure, sometimes I wish maybe I'd been born somewhere besides Beebe, but I suppose I wouldn't be satisfied there either. If the people I want to grow old around choose Beebe and the surrounding areas, I guess I'm going to have to choose a place nearby too. I just never quite grasped all that when I was a teenager dreaming of moving far, far away. But, that's still a few months away and who knows what will happen between now and then. Have a good Thanksgiving everyone and I'll talk to you soon!

Sheray

Hey guys!

Where to start? As most of you know, Randi and Ronnie Porter were here last weekend, which just happened to be my birthday weekend and their anniversary weekend!! :) We had the BEST time. We did a lot of sight seeing and it was just so wonderful to have them here. I miss them very, very much!! We ate some great food...Thai the first night, seafood at the South Street Seaport (we ate outside and it was such a beautiful day), Italian food in Little Italy, hot dogs from street vendors :) Randi wanted to see some famous people while she was here and she got her wish! We saw Shania Twain and Kareem Abdul Jabbar within about 3 minutes of each other by the Trump Towers. Randi and Ronnie were pretty pumped about Kareem! He just towered over everyone around him. Shania's voice really is as distinct as it sounds on t.v. and radio! Then, the next day as we were trying to find Bethenny Frankel's apartment, we passed Tyson Beckford. He had a FULL beard so we weren't sure at first, but now we are positive. That boy is HOT!!! :) Me and Randi looked at him, looked at each other, and looked back again lol They got to experience the subway and meet all the crazies that I get to see! We were walking from the Seaport to World Trade Center and there were a bunch of cops and a crowd gathering and some t.v. cameras.....and I heard the cop say "bomb scare" OH HECK NO! We all but ran away from that vicinity. You just never know. On Saturday night, Randi and Ronnie treated me to the show Wicked for my birthday!! We all LOVED it! Even Ronnie! It was fabulous! I know it's coming to Little Rock so anyone who has the chance should go. It's actually very, very funny! A great, entertaining time!
I'm starting to realize just how serious these Yankees are about their pro teams. If there's a NY game on, it's on every t.v. at every restaurant. The plan was to go to Justin Timberlake's restaurant, Southern Hospitality, for my birthday. That place was packed b/c of the game and they were not guaranteeing seating. :( So we all headed to some other place, which had the game on lol I think everyone had a good time though and got along well, so that's all that mattered to me.
I'm actually going to Miami for the weekend in 2 weeks! I'm very excited. I'm going with Deepak, the guy I've been dating here for a while, and few of his friends. We've got a beach house and I cannot WAIT for the warmer weather. I do NOT like the cold!! Of course, I don't really want to get in a bathing suit either... I'm going to enjoy it while I can though. It should start getting pretty hectic at work with the holidays coming up so I'll be able to get a little relaxation in first!
Well guys, I've got laundry to do so everyone enjoy your weekend! Go Hogs!!

Sheray

Sorry...

I know it's been forever. SO MUCH has been going on that I can't begin to cover it all. I've been really truly happy here in the city since we last talked. Stressed, but happy. Randi and Ronnie Porter will be here in 10 days. I cannot wait!! We get to celebrate my birthday and their anniversary together!
Ok, I just have to take a minute to say how inspired I am by Ben Davis. You guys, he's lost 120 lbs in 21 mos. He's become a national hero. He's been videoing his journey and posting them on YouTube. He's already been on Fox News and will be on The Today Show Monday, October 18th. He wanted me to be sure and let everyone know we went on a date in 11th grade! ha! I'm darn proud to say that too! :) Check out these links.

and

I just had to tell you guys about him so even more people can love and support such a wonderful and inspirational person :)
Well, I've made myself a new friend ;) That's pretty much taken up most of my time. I've been able to explore a lot of places in Downtown, West & East Village. I love it down there! Great night life for us youngins!
I went to Bloomingdale's the other day and Elizabeth Hurley was in there. I thought that was pretty cool. You can tell my teeny bopper days are over though. People were crowding around getting their phones out to take pics. I got a glance, only b/c I was headed that direction to look at perfume. I looked at her, considered a pic, shrugged it off and tried to get out of the crowd. Can't say I'd do the same if it were Justin Timberlake. Speaking of my boyfriend, we're going to celebrate my bday at his restaurant Southern Hospitality. I won't be mad if he just happens to be there :) It's been cold and rainy the past 2 weeks, BUT so far the forecast for my bday is no rain and clear skies!! Hope it stays that way for Randi and Ronnie's stay!!
So one of the other supervisors at work is extremely talented. You can just listen to her sing, listen to her perfect impressions and watch her dancing around and tell. So we started talking the other day and it turns out she's had a bit of acting in her past. She was in a play in the city and after the first show, got a standing ovation and several calls and offers afterward! She was also in a series on HBO. I thought that was all pretty impressive. Mother nature came knocking though and now she's a momma!
I know there are so many other things that have popped into my head to write about since nearly a month ago, but this is all I'm coming up with!
Take care everyone! Love you!

September 20, 2010

I have a new found respect for insomniacs. I have really had trouble the past few weeks with sleeping, but last night was the worst! I went to bed at 9:20 feeling like I had the flu. Fell asleep around 10 and woke up at 12. DID NOT go back to sleep the rest of the night. Not for 5 minutes. I had to get up at 6 too, the first day of the earliest shift I've worked. Go figure. I was literally sick at work today b/c I was so tired. I walked into Starbucks almost in tears and told them I needed whatever would keep me awake. I went back at lunch lol If it weren't for that coffee I don't think I would have made it through the day. I was training to be auditor so I got to sit down. Thank goodness b/c I probably would've fallen, had I been standing up!
So what's new in the city? As I think most of you saw, certain boroughs in the city were hit by a storm, possibly a tornado. I don't know if they ever ruled that it was a tornado or not. I come and bring the weather! I was at work and Daffy's is actually located in the basement of a big tall building. So had the tornado been in Manhattan, we would have been fine. It hit in Queens and Brooklyn and I didn't even know about it until my Mom text me asking if I was ok. Someone mentioned the word tornado at work and everyone blew it off and laughed. It's really sad b/c someone was killed and many homes and cars were damaged. BUT, as a home grown Arkansan, I had to laugh a little. ESPECIALLY, if you go to weather.com and watch one of the mobile videos. It's these 2 guys saying "dude, omg, we're in a tornado" over and over and over. It's kind of like if a New Yorker were to be in central AR when it snowed. lol
I went and watched Devil yesterday. It was a pretty good movie. I hadn't been to the movies in so long, and yes I was alone, but I walked in and smelled the popcorn and got really excited. I thought, this is going to be relaxing! It was! Now, it's been a while since I was at the movies back home but it was almost comical b/c of all the stuff they have at concession. Now I know AR has some of this stuff but they have hot tea, coffee, cheese sticks, chicken strips, fries. And you get your own butter by pressing this cool little button. Yes, I'm easily amused. My ticket was $12.50!! Anyhoo, on my way I was walking down the street I looked into the traffic and this guy was skateboarding between the traffic. I've seen rollerblades, bikes, but not skateboarding in 4 lane traffic. Oh, and a man in my neighborhood literally has 2 big speakers attached to his bicycle and rides around jamming. I'm talking bass!
Apparently there's something going on at the U.N. You probably all know more about it than I do. I don't ever watch the news. There are cops all over Midtown and I'm sure Downtown too. It's kind of chaotic around work. Thursday the President of Iran will be here....pray for me :)
Has anyone ever had a Belgian waffle with the works? I had one yesterday and oh my gosh!! Let me tell you about GOOD!!! I desperately needed a glass of milk with it. Oh man, it was amazing. A waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, nuts, chocolate, some special sauce that's amazing and whipped cream. You can choose your own toppings but those were mine. Did anyone know that they now have designer shoes at Payless? They're super cute too, but $45. Defeats the purpose of shopping there in my opinion.
Apparently there are some stabbings going on on the subways :( It hasn't happened on the train I usually take but it's probably only a matter of time. The guy hasn't been caught yet. It's a black man stabbing women, in broad daylight, for their wallets. GRRRREAT!!! Again, pray for me :)
Well guys, I guess that's all for now. I'm going to try and wind down for the evening b/c I really need to get some sleep. Even a few hours will beat last night!! Take care and GO HOGS!!!! :)
Love,
Sheray

September 16, 2010

I know it's been a while. Sorry. We'll start with last Saturday when Sara and I went out. We went to a place called Mother Burger. It was in a courtyard with a few other restaurants. It had an outside area and a pretty small inside area with a bar. We sat inside. The music was loud and college football was on :) The prices were amazing! Better than Arkansas and the food was really good too! Sara paid for everything. I said, "Sara, no." She just smiled, put her hands together and said "Welcome to New York" I was like Awwww!! I have a great new friend :) It's been a pretty uneventful week though. I haven't felt real well this week. Just constantly run down. Not sleeping well at night.
Got on the train this morning and it was just like a scene from a movie. An elderly man in a hoopty wheel chair was smack in the middle playing the harmonica and singing in Spanish. It was HILARIOUS! He was pretty good at the harmonica. Too bad I didn't know what he was saying. He just went on and on, the whole time I was on there! Remember the scene on PeeWee's Big Adventures with the crazy homeless guy playing the harmonica on the train? That's what it reminds me of! lol
I'm off tomorrow! I'm excited! Not that I have much to do except laundry and go to the bank. I'll find somewhere to explore. Maybe something interesting will happen for me to blog about! Until then, have a good weekend everyone.
Love,
Sheray

Fashion's Night Out

Hello all! Decided to tell you about my night working NYC Fashion's Night Out! It's a really big deal apparently. Daffy's is a discount store so we didn't have as much hooplah as stores like Bloomingdales, who had the celebs from America's Next Top Model and Project Runway. But a lot of stores had celebrities. Jennifer Lopez was out somewhere. A lot of stores hired DJ's. We closed earlier than expected so some stores were still open when I left. It was about 10:30 and you could just hear music blasting down the street. It was pretty cool! At Daffy's tho, we handed out fortune cookies that said "Save a Fortune" Cheesy huh? Well someone had to go up in the lobby and hand these cookies out. Guess who got that  job? Me. I ended up loving it though!!! It was a great change of pace from bagging up clothes all night. I couldn't tell you how many times I said "Welcome to Daffy's! Have a fortune cookie" and I said it with a LOT of energy. Let me tell you...that's exhausting. Throughout the night I met some interesting people. First of all, the corporate people came in in their suits and so I had to carry on a convo with them and while we're talking this wench comes up and whispers RIGHT in my ear "the fortune cookies are stale and don't have any discounts in them" I looked at the big wigs who did nothing and she just kept blabbing and said "shouldn't there at least be a discount" I just looked at her and said "THEY'RE FREE" Are you kidding me? Complaining about free stuff? People amaze me. And maybe she's never had a fortune cookie, but they're SUPPOSED to be hard. The regional manager came in later and I told her about the lady. So she told me to open one up and try it to make sure. They were actually VERY good :) We had boxes left over so all the employees who closed went home with bags full lol anyone want a fortune cookie? An older couple came in and the lady asked if the fortunes were X rated ha! Then a woman prob in her 70s came in all dolled up. (Most people were VERY dressed up for this event) She just kept rambling about how every store was either giving away fortune cookies or champagne. But between every sentence she would say "oh my gosh I'm so drunk" LOL she didn't really need to tell me tho b/c i could smell her. Her lips were blue too.... Then there was another lady who came in and she was a little odd but friendly and talkative. She said it was busier on 5th avenue than on black friday. idk about that. She kept insisting that I try this caramel popcorn that she got for free at Barney's. I just kept saying no and finally she said "it's b/c i'm a stranger isn't it" I told her yes. So she leaves and 5 min later she comes back with a brand new bag that hadn't been opened just for me :) I thought that was so nice of her. And she was right. That stuff was good!! Some firefighters stopped outside in their truck. They had their lights on but were just sitting there. I, of course, had to run out to the streets and give them a fortune cookie ;) Anyhoo, it was a fun night for me. Back to normalcy on Sunday. I'm off tomorrow. It's 9/11. I'm wondering if it will be weird in the city. I'm supposed to go out tomorrow night. Is that appropriate? I guess people will be out just like any other saturday night. We'll see. Have a great weekend! Talk to you later!

Sheray

September 8, 2010

Hope you all had a Happy Hump Day! Haven't talked to you guys in a while so this one might be a little long. I was off today so I thought I'd venture down to the Seaport for the afternoon. A nice relaxing day with a diet coke or coffee and the sunshine....ended up walking an entire circle and seeing more of the NYC Housing Authority than anyone could wish to. Next time I'll take a map!
So last week I went to pay rent and I had to get off the subway at Grand Central Station. It's like a maze trying to get out of there! I didn't get lost but I was half way guessing with every turn I made! Then, my landlord's office is located at One Grand Central. How fancy is that? This building is top notch too. You have to show your i.d. and get a pass to even get on an elevator. I'd never seen anything like the thing I had to walk through to get upstairs. It was like a little robot with arms that go up and down. The green lights would start flashing by and the arms would go down and you got to go in. It was amusing.
Apparently, when a man around here thinks a woman is attractive they say "bless you" or "God bless you" I just want to say, I DIDN'T SNEEZE! One man today said "God bless you" and I kept walking and he said "i ain't mad at you" I was thinking, "well, you certainly have no reason to be" Oh, the man at the Deli (you know, the one who calls me honey) gave me free toilet paper and paper towels b/c the credit card machine wasn't working and it was all I had! Score! lol I paid him back tho. I had to rub it in Jerad's face b/c they wouldn't even give him change for a dollar the other day, and I got free toiletries :)
I'd also like to make it known that I have perfected the art of grilled cheese making. I'm pretty happy about this.
Saturday night I'd had enough of staying in the apartment with nothing to do and since Jerad wasn't cooperating, I went out by myself. I only went to TGIFridays. BUT I ordered 2 sangrias and nachos. So I'm three nachos in and I noticed a hair, that most definitely didn't come from me, sitting in the lettuce. So I call the guy over and he comes back and says that everything is free. I said "no, i'll pay for the drinks b/c they're great" I had no cash so I had to be charged for something so I could leave a tip. I got ready to go and asked for my tab and he said "no it's nothing" I literally had to beg. He must have thought I was crazy. He said he was going to buy one of my drinks anyway :) He said "what you want me to charge you for? a soda?" lol he ended up charging me for one drink, and i left my tip. he said he'd get me one next time I go so I'm gonna hold him to that!
Now for the big story!! When I got home from TGIFridays I came to my room and a minute later, Jerad knocked on my door. He said "hey, I think somethings going on outside my window" His window faces the street. Low and behold the biggest arrest I've seen in my life is going down. It was sooo cool with all the NYPD down there! I felt like I was watching tv! I counted 11 guys arrested. They were all young, teens to 20s and nicely dressed boys. Lined down in a row across the street. They were surrounded by police who were just standing there. Eventually an NYPD van pulled up and carried them off. I counted at least 9 police cars. A few were undercover including an undercover Taxi. Cool huh?! Be careful what you say in a taxi! There were also at least 17 cops. I was like man, that's as many cops and cop cars as we have in Beebe! I took pics lol I am such an out of towner! I also took a video that I'm going to try and post on facebook if it will let me.
I went out walking around last Saturday when I was off. I've never considered myself to be one for architecture, but the buildings in this city are just BEAUTIFUL!! There's so much detail in the sculptures and engravings on the buildings. And the pictures just do NOT do them justice. This is a place you have to visit to truly appreciate. I just stand at stare at them sometimes. It makes me wonder how long it took to perfect some of them. I passed an old church the other day. You could look at the stones and tell it was super old. I wondered just how long it'd been there.
Found out today that Ronnie and Randi Porter are coming to visit in October. They will be here the day after my birthday!! I am SO excited about their visit! Plus I'll have someone to celebrate my 25th birthday with in the big city!!!
This week is Fashion Week in NYC and Friday is the actual Fashion Night where a bunch of stores are open late. Daffy's is one of those stores. A lot of people are complaining about having to work late, but I'm actually a little excited to be a part of NYC Fashion Night! Kinda cool, right?
Hope you guys have a good night! I'll talk to you soon!
Love,
Sheray

I DO have a knot on my head!!!!

That's all

September 2, 2010

Hey guys!! Let's see, I felt much better at work today!! Guess what I did? I bent down to unlock a cash drawer and hit my head on the corner of the paneling. I mean I knocked the CRAP outta my head. We filed an accident report...you never know. I checked for blood lol No blood, no knot. Just messed up my hair, gave me a headache and I got really tired afterwards.
The U.S. Open is in New York and Jerad went and watched it last night. I thought that was pretty cool. He saw Andy Roddick (sp?) play.
Has anyone been watching the Hurricane Earl path? Looks like I may be experiencing my first hurricane. I'm scared but a little excited. The area I live in was under a "Tropical Storm Watch" last I checked. I haven't looked tonight though and it's supposed to move in tomorrow!! Looks like I'll be staying in on my day off.
Oh my goodness! You guys should have seen the CRAZY man that came in Daffy's yesterday! I've never seen anything like it! This older man, prob late 60's, comes in and starts yelling at the absolute top of his lungs about how Daffy's puts "false sizes" on their merchandise. He said something about getting his lawyer. Let me tell you, his voice carried too. Everyone in the store was watching. It's a huge store and people on the other side were just standing there. I think people were scared. And he was cussing like crazy, in front of a kid too. So his wife walks over to him, she's mortified, and he rares back to hit her!!!! Yes, I kid you not!!!! I felt so bad for her. You know he treats her like crap. Anyway, they finally got him settled down and out of the store. Even the "security" guys were standing around with wide eyes. They didn't know what to do. I don't know why nobody called the police. I mean, who gets that worked up over clothing?
Like I already said, I'm off tomorrow. I'm def going to sleep in! I have to go pay rent and if the weather isn't too bad I'll do some laundry. Probably just stay in the rest of the day if it's rainy. Hope you all have a good holiday weekend. I'll be working Monday, but the store closes early!!

Last day of August

My apologies in the long delay since the last blog. I've been super busy and on top of that, exhausted! As you know, Casey came over the weekend. We had a great time!! Jerad entertained her while I was at work. They walked the Brooklyn Bridge, which I was more than happy to skip out on :) We pranced up and down 5th avenue. I took lots of pics so check them out if you haven't already. We went to Central Park on Sunday. It's just absolutely beautiful there and the skyline that you see from inside the park is gorgeous, as well. The area we went in is surrounded by big, beautiful apartment buildings that the rich and famous live in. We romped through Times Square on 2 or 3 occasions. Ate at a place called Junior's that is famous for it's cheesecake. I got strawberry shortcake cheesecake and yes, it was amazing!! While we were there a lady passed me and had on some Premier Jewelry. So i jumped up from the table and chased her down! lol She got it a party in San Antonio. It's funny b/c I don't even own that piece, but I sure recognized it.
Work is about to kill me as far as my Fibromyalgia is concerned. I really like my job and I'm getting more and more comfortable with the people everyday. Standing on my feet though is putting me in tremendous pain and I'm not sure how much more of it I can take :( I'd sure hate to leave though right before Holidays and after all they've done for me. I may not even be able to find another job though. We will see how things work themselves out. Our first rent is due tomorrow. Boo. I'm scratching up money from here, there, and everywhere!!
I called my grandmother last night. She cracks me up!! She said "Well sis, I always mean to call you, but I reckon I guess my calls won't reach that far!" haha! I sure miss her! I'm glad she seems to be feeling better than she was a few months back though. Scott's 23rd birthday is Friday. It felt so funny putting a card in the mail to be sent half way across the country.
Have I compared the NYPD to the Beebe Police Department yet? The things that BPD live for (anything to do with traffic violations) don't even exist here. There's no such thing as jaywalkers. Bikers (bicycles, not motorcycles) stay on the road with cars. People just pull over and stop in the middle of the road. Half the roads don't have lanes, you just kinda pick a spot and drive. If NYPD went to BB, they'd die of boredom. If Beebe came to NYC, they'd freak out. Not to mention get a bunch of people killed at a bank robbery or cause a hostage situation. Trust me, they have no idea how to respond to an alarm at a bank!!
Well guys, I know this isn't much for the time you waited but there's not much else to say. Hope everyone is doing well.

Sheray

August 25, 2010

Hey guys! Sitting here watching a movie when I should be in bed. Got off at 8:30 tonight and back in the morning at 9:45! I'm worn out! Today was my best day at work so far tho. I wasn't as stressed out. Went and invested in a good pair of Aerosole shoes after work b/c those American Eagle flats from Payless just weren't cutting it!!!
Here's my subway story for the day. Someone on the train had a pet rat! UGGGH!! It was white with red eyes and a disgustingly long tail! I HATE tails!!!! And he was holding it like a dang baby, petting it. And the guy looked like someone who would have a pet rat! Yea, I said it! He just looked weird. I stared forever, quit, look up again the guy is reading a dang book and the rat is just crawling around on his shoulder. That guy had a box of something too....I didn't look in it, but judging from other people's reactions, it was some other stupid animal!! The guy even kissed the rat on the mouth....twice. I was starting to feel sorry for the rat!
So this morning, I'm laying in bed pressing snooze as always and I hear a knock on the door. Who would be at the door unless we let them in the building first? Must be Jerad in the kitchen. Then the dang door opens!!! Are you scared? It was bank people (I think) just checking on the condition of the building. I was like WHAT THE CRAP?! just walk on in! About 3 of them and I had to get in the shower. They left soon tho and later I was in my room about to put on my work clothes and KNOCK again. REALLY?! REALLY?!!! here they come again. Jerad must have walked in b/c i hear from a lady "i'm so sorry we just need to look again" I locked my door. I was ticked off. They should have given us some kind of notice or just sat it out until we left. We both had to get ready for work and did not have time to prance around strangers walking through our apartment. I'm still a little peeved about it. I mean, an hour notice would have been nice!
It's been ridiculously cold here the last few days. I think I already mentioned that tho. It's supposed to warm up tho in the next week! Woo! It should be a beautiful weekend for Casey's first visit to NYC!
Well guys, I'm off. ttyl

August 24, 2010

Well, I've been getting hard at it at work the past few days! I've really jumped right in and started working. That's what I like tho. The job is pretty easy b/c I've already done almost every aspect of it!! I'm ready to not be the "new girl" anymore. You know? I love Ms. Ena who trains me though. She is doing a great job and you can tell that she is very respected. The customers on the other hand, are really making the rumor that New Yorkers are rude, a reality. Snotty and rude. The girls at work asked me just today if I thought New Yorkers were nice and i said, "Well I did until i started working here!!" People always show their worst behavior when they are out in public. They like to think they are better than the worker, but in reality....what do they do that's so much better? Oh my goodness! The funniest thing happened today at work! I was checking this lady out and I said "so you're just getting the boots and this?" she said "what?" I said "you're only getting the boots and this shirt?" she said "i'm getting what" well they were rain boots so I thought, ok, people around here must have a different name for them and she doesn't know what i'm talking about. Then it hit me. I said "you can't understand what I'm saying can you?" BAHAHAHA!!! it was hilarious!!! we were both American, English speaking ladies, but she is from NYC and I'm from the south. I cracked up forever over that. She finally figured it out and started laughing. She said "did you ask me if i was getting the boots and this" We all got a good laugh out of that one :)
Oh dang, I just realized my air mattress is messed up. There's a big bubble right where my head goes. Guess I can turn it around lol
I went grocery shopping after work and these guys were lined up outside and starting saying "You're so beautiful Miss. Damn! You're so sexy" and then when i came out "You're so beautiful, can i help you?" and i got half way down the road and I could still here them saying "I know you need help" lol I was thinking, "it's dark, how well can you possibly even see me?" I tried not to be rude tho. The main guy saying it was Mexican and my Spanish professor told me that in Mexico, a girl is insulted if she walks down the street and men do not compliment her. So, the men come here carrying on their tradition, but it just creeps us girls out!
It was chilly in the city today. I literally had chill bumps coming home tonight. People are already wearing jackets and I've seen a few people in sweatsuits! It's ridiculous that it's this cold in August!
My friend Casey is coming over from DC this weekend to see me! I'm so excited. Well, I'm pretty sure she's coming for the city lol It's her first time here and I'm so excited for her! We will prob do some things that I haven't done yet either, so I'm pumped about that!!
Well guys, I'm tired and have to get up and do it all over again tomorrow, just like most of you! Have a good night!

August 22, 2010

First of all, Happy birthday Miley girl!!! What a wonderful, emotional 2 years of existence! :) If I can remember all the things I have to talk about, this blog will prob be pretty long. Starting with....THE CRAZY PEOPLE ON THE SUBWAY!!!!! Holy cow! Ok, so you read in my last blog about the overactive cusser? WELL, Jerad and I went to eat last night and the subway door opens for us to get on and I see this man with a crazy look in his eyes. I said "i do not want to get on the car with that guy" but Jerad is a man and didn't really listen and was on the train b/4 i even had a chance to say I'd get on the one behind. So people are filing in and I hear the "watch out for the closing doors" so I hurry in. Now the whole time the crazy guy is walking around like he can't figure out if he wants to get off or not, clinging to this paper bag for dear life. Anyway, I go ahead and push my way in b/c I'm about to get left behind, which unfortunately involved nudging the psycho. HE FREAKING HIT ME!!!! No, not across the face but for those of you who know my Granny's John, it was like if you try to take his cards. He will hold his cards in front of you and elbow the crap out of you. So yea, this guy knocks me pretty hard in the arm and my eyes got HUGE and he says "you better watch where you putting your hands" Well, everyone on the train is watching this disgusting guy. I moved about a whole foot b/c that's all i could manage, and people told him he had forgotten his meds. He had prescriptions all over the seat, including an inhaler in the floor. THEN, he spit a loogie (sp?), apparently not his first, onto the rail that people hang on to. So there's this slime running down the pole and i was about to vomit.. I then moved to the other door. This other guy just looked at me and shook his head. THANK GOODNESS that guy got off on the next stop. Then, when it was time for us to get off at our stop, I got squished! I could literally feel my ribs being pushed inward towards each other b/c people were fighting to get off. It's so inhumane on those subways at times. They don't give you NEAR enough time to get on and off. There's just too many people filing in and out! So we eat dinner, which i'll tell you about, and get back on the subway/train (i interchange these words) and what do we have? Another crazy? This one wasn't scary, in fact, he had half the train laughing pretty hard. He was scrawny and either drunk, crazy, homeless or all 3. He had no front teeth and was walking up and down the car hollering and making weird noises. He was preaching in Spanish about how Americans treat Puerto Ricans unfairly. Jerad and I can't speak Spanish fluently but we both got that much from it. The guy reeked too and he would grab the pole and dance around. He even got in some poor guys face and was talking. I would vomit from the smell. No one talked back and most of us tried to hide our laughter when he was watching so that he wouldn't be enticed. This morning, I was walking through the station and before I even reached the stairs I heard someone talking very loudly. I couldn't make out what they were saying. I rounded the steps slowly to make sure there were other people. There were a ton luckily but the guy (and again, drunk, homeless, crazy or all 3) was at the bottom of the steps yelling about how someone didn't murder someone. I dunno but luckily the train came and I made sure to get on where he was NOT! Ok, done with my subway stories :) Travel at your own expense!
Dinner-Jerad took me to a place last night called Country Hill. I had bbq and bud light. It felt like home :) It was a neat place. You took your card to these different areas. The meat counter, sides counter, and dessert counter. You got whatever you wanted and however much you wanted. They marked your card and when you got done, they rang up what all you got at the register. It really wasn't too expensive. They even had real fruit juice margaritas! I mean, I never stopped to even think of that as a possibility! It's just tequila and margarita mix right?! lol But seriously Mom, it was the closest thing I've had to a home cooked meal that I've had since I've been here so you should be happy. Not quite as good as home, but still pretty good! They even had great cornbread!!
I went to church this morning. It was the Manhattan Church of Christ. It definitely was different from the Church of Christs I've attended. It just felt a little fake to me and maybe for show. The congregation was small too. I stayed 50 min, at which point they released the children to what they called VBS and I headed for the door. They still had not started preaching and I would have gotten way more out of sitting at home reading my Bible. And people back home cannot complain about the kids at our church. These kids were LOUD and out of control. One was running up and down the aisle. He ran up on the stage...i'm not kidding! One man was praying and busted out in song. His eyes were still shut and his head bowed but he was singing at the top of his lungs. Some of you may do this at your church but it was a little weird for me.
Last night when Jerad and i arrived to our apartment building this couple walked out and...HAD A DOG! I said "JERAD! They just came out of our building" He said "yea i know" He was probably thinking "oh Lord, please make her keep her mouth shut" and for those of you who don't know, the landlord allows all pets EXCEPT dogs and I had to leave my baby Tucker back home with Mom and Dad. (thanks Mom!) Anyhoo, so i left for church this morning and they were out with the dog. I asked them if the owner allowed it and he said he was dogsitting for the weekend. SO, guess I won't make a fuss about that.
A lot of you may already know this, but apparently bed bugs are quite a problem in New York which DISGUSTS me!!! They have infested movie theaters and I found out at work yesterday, that the Victoria's Secret down the road had to close for 2 hours b/c the bed bugs got so bad! can you even imagine?! And bed bugs in your lingerie?! AHHHH! No way!!!
And yea, I had my first day of work at my home store, checking people out and being supervisor. It was pretty uneventful tho and the store was slow. I really like the managers and the girls that worked cash seemed pretty nice! I even got my lovely name badge and it already says "supervisor" Yes, i'm a nerd but i'm excited :) It made for a long day but luckily my legs aren't hurting today!! :)
Well guys, I've covered a lot and probably not everything on my mind. If you stuck this blog out to the end, thank you!!! I'm thankful for all you guys everyday! Really! Enjoy your Sunday and have a good work week!
Love,
Sheray

August, 20, 2010

Tomorrow is the big day! I start actually cashiering at my home store! I'm excited! We had register class today and it seemed super easy :)
Register class was done before 10:30 so I decided to go roam the city since I was feeling pretty good and didn't want to come home and take a nap, as usual! I got on the train and decided I would just get off at some random stop that I wasn't familiar with....it was Chinatown! ha! I'm posting pics on Facebook as soon as I'm done with this. I don't know if it was the heat, but I found myself very annoyed down there. People kept getting in my way! There were a lot of elderly people there too. Elderly, Chinese people. It was pretty big too. Seemed to go on forever.
I've decided that New York City must be home to world's LOUDEST ice cream trucks. You know, you watch t.v. and movies and there's always the sirens in the background. Where are the ice cream trucks?! I always here them and they are way louder than the sirens!! The sirens here sound different from home too. They sound like the sirens in the old movies or old war movies.
Yesterday I was on the subway and for whatever reason that they announced, they skipped a stop. Well, they skipped the stop that the craziest man on the train needed off at. He had had his face buried in his hands and he looked up....and looked around....and sh*t! EF...F@%*. And then the longest series of the "F" word RIGHT in front of these 2 precious little boys who were beside me. So needless to say I was a little uncomfortable because this man obviously wasn't real right in the head. I looked at the girl across from me, who had been sitting by him (until he GOT UP to start cussing) and she kind of grinned and I had to turn around and bite my cheek to keep from cracking up! And you'd think he'd be done and all of a sudden F! That guy was crazy, I was relieved he got off at the next stop! You will definitely find the weirdest characters on the train! And lots of people looking for money!!
So it's Friday night and I don't have much to do. I wanted to see Last Exorcism but it's not out yet. Looks like I'll be catching up with the remaining episodes of Trueblood. Have a good weekend!

August 19, 2010

Hey guys! I know I should write b/c it's been a few days, but I don't feel like I have much to talk about. I know that's sad considering it's New York, but I stay in my apartment a lot to keep from spending money.
I've got one more day of orientation, which is in the morning, then I get to go to my home store and start F/T Saturday! I can't wait!! I also have exciting news in the world of Premier. I received recognition from my Premier great-grandparents, who are top notch in Premier, for being in the top 20 retail sales of their 10-10-10 (downline) for the month of July!! I know that is probably a foreign language to most of you but I am SO excited about it! On top of that, Becca Fulks is signing up underneath me so now I get to be her Premier Momma!!! I am so proud to be sponsoring her b/c I know she is going to do great :)
I am up too late tonight. I'm gonna be tired in the morning so hopefully orientation is the normal 2 hours so I can come home and take a nap! I've got a big day Saturday! It'll be the most work and standing on my feet that I've done in almost a month!
I know Beebe is dealing with back to school now, so best of luck to you all. I don't have anything else to say. So sorry. Love you all!

Work

Hey guys! Started my first day of work today. It was a whopping 2 hours! We just discussed policies, procedures and did some paperwork. You know how that goes. It was funny b/c for the first time ever, I had to sign some agreement about blogging and online websites saying I would add a disclaimer if I talked about the company. I just thought it was funny considering this is the first blog I've kept in my entire life and by coincidence I have to sign that a few days later...ok not that funny. I took the train (subway) yesterday to figure out where I had to be for orientation. Well, after walking a few blocks and getting there, I realized that there was a subway RIGHT in front of the building! So that's nice. After I start at my permanent location it'll be back to walking a few blocks after I get off the train.
Ok, so i've been meaning to write about this for a while, but always forget. You would not believe the price of tanning up here!!! I'm seriously having tanning withdrawals and my stupid eczema is acting up too! Ok, I went in one that was in a good location, but there was not anything special about the place. ONE visit is THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS!!!!! Holy crap!! You girls better not complain about an $8 visit ever again. And if you buy visits they average out to $10/visit. The 25 visits pack was $250 and the 35 package was $350. I'm gonna look like a dadgum vampire when i get back! And the towels, lotions and sprays just aren't the same :(
Did I tell you guys that I got Skype? It's a webcam software for those of you who were behind in the times, like myself! Anyhoo, now I get to SEE and talk to my whole family at night. INCLUDING my baby Tucker :) And of course Miley girl. I'm telling you, dogs are so much smarter than we give them credit for. My sister held Tucker and he could hear me but once he caught my gaze on that computer, you could literally see his whole body calm down and he just stared at me for the longest time. Then he went to trying to lick and sniff the computer! lol I miss that little furball SO BAD!!!!! I think Skype makes Mom miss me more tho. I told her we were gonna cut it out if she got sad. So anyway, if you have skype, add me!! My username is sherayg.
I'm sure there are plenty of other things to tell you, but I'm at a blank and i'm sleepy! Didn't get to sleep til noon today, which I was getting VERY used to. Love you all and talk to you later!

Sunday

Hey guys!! I just could NOT make myself get up this morning for church. I don't know what was wrong with me. But, I decided that it would be ok b/c i could go to the evening service. Well, I looked up about 10 churches and not one of them had a Sunday evening church. That's new to me. So, guess I will try again next week.
I went to Bath and Body Works today. Their new fall scents candles are on sale for $5!! I bought 3 candles and a wallflower. Jerad has to keep his windows open so that he can get air in the room. Apparently it smells a little outside b/c the apartment just keeps this blah smell that I just can't stand!! You don't notice it when you're outside, but I sure do in the apartment!
I've had a headache for 4 days. I guess it's allergies but they're darn near debilitating! Hopefully it leaves before Tuesday, or at least gets better. This Trueblood show I've been watching is getting silly. Think I may be about done with it.
It rained again today. It amazed me how many people walked around without umbrellas. It wasn't pouring, but raining enough to need one. People were out with their kids too! I just didn't get that.
I've upgraded to "honey" now to the man at the Deli across the street! lol He's nice, not creepy though.
Now that I write my blogs on this website, I can't see how many views I get. So, will you please let me know if you're still reading so I'll know whether or not to continue? I know there's plenty of stuff to write about in New York, but the fact is, I just simply don't have the money to run around all day and do these things. I figure eventually you guys will get bored with these so just please let me know. Love you all!

Yay for the weekend!

Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend! Apparently, the blog application on Facebook doesn't want to work anymore, so here we are. My new boss, Linda, JUST called!! I start orientation on Tuesday at their Broadway location. How exciting is that?! Working on Broadway! Of course, the store I'll actually be working at will be over on 54th st. Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas? That's right...something from Daffy's.
I met up with Andrew Buck last night. I used to work with him at Cracker Barrel in Conway and now he lives here. We had a great time just catching up and discussing the do's and don'ts of the city!! He works at a Leisure Time Bowl. It's a bowling alley but also a restaurant and an island bar in the middle. We got some nachos that were amazing! They had pineapple and I don't know what else but they were so good! I met some other people while I was up there who were really nice. We tried to go to some place, I don't know the name, but they wouldn't let you in if you had on shorts or sneakers. Of course, people in our group had that on so it was a no go. We went to some hole in the wall pizza place around 3 and it was packed. The night flew by and I didn't make it home til 4. It was entertaining watching people on the train falling over sleeping :)
I'm making an honest effort to get up and go to church in the morning. I have to do some research, again, to figure out exactly which one I want to go to. I looked up some Churches of Christ, because that's what I go to at home, but judging from the websites I think they may not be the Churches of Christ that I'm used to.
Jerad cleaned today! I'm so excited! He threw out all the boxes that were piled up in the living room. He also did the dishes. Now I just have to throw my boxes out that are still in my room.
Man, someone is getting a little excited with the horn outside!! I am getting hungry so I'm going to get off of here. I'm going to finish Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs too. It's cute! Love you all!
